IPL

Also known as Intense Pulsed Light; A technology used by cosmetic and medical practitioners to perform various skin treatments for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes.

Laser

A device that generates an intense beam of coherent monochromatic (single color) light. Hand held laser devises are used in clinical settings for light therapies.

LED

Also known as Light Emitting Diode; A semiconductor light source that emits light when current flows through it.

Also known as LED; A semiconductor light source that emits light when current flows through it.

MED

Minimum Erythemal Dose - The amount of UV exposure that causes the first barely noticable reddening of the skin.

Melanin

Melanin is a chemical pigment in the skin. Melanin is found in the epidermis and absorbs UV.

Melanocyte

Pigment producing cell found in the basal cell (bottom) layer of the epidermis of human skin.

Melanogenesis

The process by which new melanin pigment is created in our skin.
